Biochemistry

Bile salts are derivatives of cholanoic acid, which is synthesized from cholesterol. Human bile mainly contains cholanic acid derivatives: cholic, deoxycholic, glycocholic, chenodeoxycholic and lithocholic acid, and mainly their sodium salts consisting of cholic and deoxycholic acids, glycocol and taurine.
