Biochemistry

UTP regeneration is carried out by ATP: ATP + UDP -* ADP + UTP. The breakdown of glycogen and the release of glucose occur with increasing demand for it. This process is carried out in two ways: phosphorolytic and hydrolytic, which complement each other. In the depot, where glycogen accumulates (liver, muscles, other organs and tissues), it breaks down in the phosphorylistic way, but in the digestive tract - it breaks down in the hydrolytic way (Fig. 11.1). Figure 11.1 - Breakdown and synthesis of glycogen Phosphorolysis of glycogen is carried out by successive cleavage of glucose- 1-phosphate with the participation of the enzyme phosphorylase: phosphorylase Glycogen + H3PO4 --------- ► Glucose- 1 -Phosphate + Glycogen (n-residues) ((n-l)-residues) 217
